Artist Statement

There are many forms in which an artist works; for me my work is a way to record my unique individual experiences throughout my lifetime, the minimal occurrences that transpire each day, addressing contemporaneous issues specific to the human condition and graft them into site-specific installations and objects.

Weaving between different forms of media or disciplines offers inspiration, I reflect in my own style, observations and experiences of my life. Dependent upon the concept behind each project the approach will alter, using my knowledge of artist materials and tools. My body of work has been exhibited throughout North America, Mexico and Italy, in spaces such as the Northern Clay Center, Minnesota, Escuela Nacional de Artes Plasticas, Mexico City and is included in the permanent Sculpture Garden of the Archie Bray Foundation, Montana.

I have been strongly engaged in the critical research of ceramics with curatorial projects, publishing and creating works that reflect this passion. I received my BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, MFA from the California College of Arts and my MPhil at the Royal College of Art. And I have had my first major publication Ceramics and the Human Figure that features the works of a range of international ceramic artists, all practicing within the fields of installation and sculpture released worldwide by A&C Black Visual Arts.

In 2014, I was a Hothouse Guest Lecturer, for the Crafts Council, I exhibited as a shortlisted artist for AWARD at the British Ceramics Biennial, published Reporting on Residencies in Ceramic Review Magazine and was guest curator for Richard Slee: Revolution in the Rain at the Milton Keynes Arts Centre. And exhibited in Pulso, at the Kendall Galleries: Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. MI USA

Currently, I was awarded the 2015-16 Viola Frey Distinguished Visiting Professorship at the California College of the Arts. Gaining access to the Viola Frey archive and working closely with the Artists' Legacy Foundation. As part of my Visiting Professorship I will be teaching Craft Theory and hands on courses at CCA in the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016. I am also a Mentor for Hothouse the Crafts Council's professional development program in the UK. And working as a consultant with Pro Arts Gallery developing and organising their Professional Development series, Two Cent's Worth.
