RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Established in 2003, The Clay Studio of Missoula’s artist-in-residency program aims to provide a stimulating work environment for local, national, and international ceramicists seeking studio space and access to professional-grade studio equipment. During their stay residents are given a semi-private workspace that they can access twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Participating artists are also offered numerous opportunities to display their work in our exhibition and sales galleries.
In exchange for studio workspace, resident artists are required to assist The Clay Studio of Missoula in achieving our primary goal of the advancement of ceramic arts. Residents will be asked to provide paid instruction for our community classes. Periodically, residents will also be asked to assist with special events (i.e. gallery openings, fundraisers) and to make public slideshow presentations as part of our quarterly Resident Lecture Series. As a general guideline, residents are expected to contribute one hour of active labor for every ten hours spent working in the studio.
The Clay Studio of Missoula offers residencies lasting between two and twenty-four months in length. Residents are responsible for purchasing their own materials, although the studio does provide an assortment of dry materials for the creation of glazes. Artists are responsible for all housing and living expenses, however we are more than happy to assist out of state residents in locating affordable living arrangements prior to the start of their residency.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Clay Studio of Missoula offers several studio technician internships for qualified individuals each year. Applicants must be self-motivated individuals with background experience in the field of ceramics. As there is not set application deadline, interested individuals are encouraged to apply at any time. Positions are filled through our internship program partner, the Montana Campus Compact, on an as needed basis.
Studio technician interns at The Clay Studio of Missoula can expect to engage in a wide variety of tasks, including (but not limited to): mixing clay/glazes, loading/firing kilns, general studio cleaning, setting up gallery shows, and assisting the instruction of our children’s summer camps.
While the Clay Studio of Missoula routinely offers studio technician internship positions, our organization is also open to the creation of internships in the fields of advertising, marketing, graphic design, business, and strategic planning. Individuals possessing knowledge in any of these fields are encouraged to contact studio staff about the possibility of designing a new internship position.
Intern applicants must complete both a Montana Campus Compact and Clay Studio of Missoula application. Each of these applications can be accessed on the organizations’ respective websites.
